Current Project
Emerging in direct response to the urgency, performance, and constant productivity of New York, this work began as a growing curiosity about what creativity looks like outside systems of pressure, urgency, and acceleration.
Beginning in June 2026, Ali will embark on an immersive research project throughout Southeast Asia exploring the emotional environments that shape the way we live, relate to one another, and create.
Inspired by documentary storytelling, travel journalism, and artists who approached the world through observation and immersion rather than spectacle, the work draws influence from figures such as Anthony Bourdain, whose work centered atmosphere, human connection, and honest cultural exchange as much as destination itself.
This is not about escapism or idealized travel. It is an exploration of rhythm, identity, artistry, and the spaces that influence how we experience life and creative expression.
Phase 1 - Immersive Research
June - September 2026The first phase consists of three months of travel and documentation throughout Southeast Asia, focusing on cultural immersion, artistic practice, movement, wellness, hospitality, and intentional living.
Through photography, writing, short-form documentary work, and direct collaboration with local artists, hospitality spaces, wellness practitioners, and community-led initiatives, the process seeks to document environments that foster presence, connection, and alternative approaches to modern living.
Phase 2 - Research Analysis & Conceptual Development
October - December 2026This phase serves as a period of reflection, synthesis, and conceptual development. The collected material will be reviewed to identify recurring emotional patterns, visual motifs, and the deeper questions emerging through the work..
This stage will also establish the long-term visual language, narrative direction, and creative framework for the project moving forward.
Phase 3 - Long-Form Development & Editing
January - March 2027The final phase will deepen the narrative structure, refine the piece’s visual identity, and shape the research into a more immersive long-form body of work.
